GyroSidecar Support
Privacy Policy
GyroSidecar records your iPhone's gyroscope and accelerometer at 100 Hz
while you film with a separate camera app on the same phone, and exports
GCSV v1.3 sidecar files for gyro-based video stabilization tools.
Quick start
- Open GyroSidecar and allow Motion & Fitness access.
- Optionally enable Reference Audio (used later to align
the motion log with your footage by waveform).
- Tap Start Recording, then switch to your camera app and
film. Logging continues in the background.
- Stop the camera first, return to GyroSidecar, and tap
Stop Recording.
- In the Sessions tab, share the sync package or the
individual GCSV file to your computer.
- Load your footage and the sidecar into your stabilization tool.
FAQ
- Why does the app use background audio?
- Only when you enable Reference Audio: the app genuinely records a
low-quality alignment track while you film. Nothing is ever played back, and
with the toggle off no microphone access happens at all.
- Why is Motion & Fitness permission required?
- Recording the motion sensors is the app's entire purpose; without the
permission there is nothing to record.
- Where are my recordings?
- Only on your iPhone, listed in the Sessions tab. Nothing is uploaded
anywhere. Deleting a session (or the app) removes the data.
- A recording was interrupted — is it lost?
- No. GyroSidecar writes incrementally; after a crash or force-quit the
Sessions tab offers one-tap recovery of everything logged so far.
- What phone and iOS version do I need?
- An iPhone running iOS 26.1 or later.
